Dr. Raed Al-Naser

NAAMA National President 2025

PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Dr. Raed Al-Naser earned his medical degree from Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan, in the summer of 1992. His aspiration for advanced training in the field of medicine led him to pursue opportunities in the United States.
After completing his residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Newark, New Jersey, Dr. Al-Naser began his professional career in the U.S. He initially joined a private practice in Los Angeles before relocating to San Diego in 2006. There, he became a member of the esteemed San Diego Critical Care Medical Group. Currently, Dr. Al-Naser serves as a medical staff member at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California. In 2013, he expanded his contributions to the San Diego community by establishing his own pulmonary practice.
Dr. Al-Naser’s passion for his culture and heritage is unwavering, and he has tirelessly worked to support and elevate the Arab American medical community. He joined the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) in 1997 during his training years and was instrumental in founding the San Diego chapter in 2008. He served as President of the chapter from 2020 to 2022, later becoming Secretary of NAAMA’s National Office. He was subsequently elected as the NAAMA National President for 2025. Dr. Al-Naser has been a strong advocate for health equity within the Arab American community and has championed efforts to achieve recognition as a distinct ethnic group on the U.S. Census.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Al-Naser enjoys traveling with his family, immersing himself in different cultures and societies. Proud of his heritage, he has a deep appreciation for Arabic music and art. A devoted soccer enthusiast, he enjoys following his favorite teams and players.

Dr. Tarek Hassanein

PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Dr. Tarek Hassanein received his medical degree from Faculty of Science/Alexandria University in 1982. He later completed an Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Faculty of Science/Alexandria University in 1987. He then served an Internal Medicine Residency at Wayne State University, and a Clinical Research Fellowship as well as Gastroenterology Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh in 1994.

Dr. Hassanein specializes in Gastroentereology and Transplant Hepatology, and helps patients with GI diseases. He is a Professor of Medicine at the School of Medicine in San Diego, California (UCSD). He also serves as the Director of Southern California GI & Liver Centers and is the Director of the Clinical Trials Center. Dr. Hassanein is the Co-Director of Liver Transplantation at Scripps Clinic.

Dr. Tarek Hassanein is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Transplant Hepatology. He also speaks English, Arabic, and German.

Dr. Hassan Bencheqroun

Dr. Hassan Bencheqroun is a board-certified pulmonologist practicing in San Diego, California, with affiliations including Vibra Hospital of San Diego and Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center. He possesses expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of respiratory conditions, including pneumonia, asthma, and bronchitis. His subspecialties include critical care medicine and pleural diseases. Dr. Bencheqroun accepts a variety of insurance plans, including Medicare, Aetna, Humana, Blue Cross, and United Healthcare.

Dr. Ayham Skaf

PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Ayham Skaf, M.D., a senior associate at American Eye Associates, is a fellowship trained retina specialist that treats a wide variety of ocular disorders and aberrant retinal disorders and specializes in conditions such as: diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, uveitis, macular hole and macular pucker. He also performs premium lens and refractive and complex cataract surgery. He is very experienced in MIGS – Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery, and enjoys complex surgery such as iris repair, secondary lens fixation and complex retinal detachments. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Genetics. He continued at OSU’s College of Medicine, where he received his medical degree with honors. Dr. Skaf’s ophthalmology training included a residency at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, where he garnered a Surgical Vitreoretinal Fellowship.

In addition to serving as Chief Resident at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, IL, Dr. Skaf’s exemplary academic career has afforded him various honors, awards, and teaching opportunities. Additionally, he has published several articles on the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic disorders, one of which is “Surgical Treatment of Age-Related Macular Degeneration” in Seminars in Ophthalmology.

Dr. Skaf believes that vision is one of the greatest gifts of life, and has made preserving the vision for others his life’s work. He volunteers his medical and surgical skills to improve the welfare of patients worldwide. His leadership skills have proven extremely helpful in organizing events to benefit others. He volunteered to travel to Guatemala and perform cataract eye surgeries on Guatemalan patients in need of his surgical skills. He takes time to travel to Washington, D.C., to advocate for patients in the politics of medicine. He is fluent in English and Arabic.

Dr. Skaf is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), American Society of Retina Specialists, the AAO Political Action Committee, the AAO Surgical Scope Fund, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. His hospital affiliations include Scripps Memorial Hospital and Sharp Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Skaf has been continuously voted by his peers, both within his specialty and outside, as one of San Diego County’s Top Doctors by the San Diego County Medical Society every year since 2016.

Dr. Rola Khedraki

PROFESSIONAL HIGHLIGHTS:

Dr. Rola Khedraki is an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist at Scripps Clinic. Dr. Khedraki completed her general cardiology training at Scripps Clinic and her advanced cardiology training in heart failure and cardiac transplant at Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Khedraki’s expertise lies in invasive hemodynamics and current and emerging therapies for patients along the continuum of heart failure. Her clinical focus is in treating conditions requiring highly specialized care including amyloid cardiomyopathy, cardiovascular care in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy or immunotherapy (cardio-oncology), cardiac sarcoidosis, genetic cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, valvular heart disease, peripartum cardiomyopathy, cardiogenic shock, as well as those with advanced heart failure requiring mechanical circulatory support devices and heart transplantation.

She strives to maintain an academic mission that stimulates a robust scientific understanding of cardiovascular disease while implementing best practices in interacting with every patient at the bedside. She aims to always have a patient-centric approach that is focused on open communication and creating meaningful relationships with patients and their families so that they may reach their health goals.

Dr. Khedraki is heavily involved in several national committees including the American College of Cardiology, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplant and Heart Failure Society of America. She has a deep passion for medical education and has been the recipient of several teaching awards and serves as a faculty member for the adult cardiovascular fellowship program.
